"Time for common sense"
http://www.getup.org.au/campaign/ClimateActionNow&id=638
It's time for some climate common sense. That's why we're launching this simple ask:
Invest more in renewable energy than you hand out to big polluters."
Yesterday Kevin Rudd announced more than a billion dollars in extra handouts and compensation to big polluters, bringing their haul to $8.4 billion this year alone.
In comparison, the Rudd Government has invested less than half that amount in renewable energy.

To: Australian Commonwealth Government
We, the undersigned, ask the Australian Government and Environment Minister the Honourable Peter Garrett to halt the expansion of the Olympic Dam uranium mine in South Australia.
We hold that the risks to human health, safety, the environment and future generations are too great. The mine will add to the already massive radioactive and toxic tailings and waste, inject acid and toxic chemicals into the water table thereby risking our water supply and endangering the mound springs held sacred by the local Arabunna and Barngala peoples. The destination of the uranium mined is in no way assured. We cannot guarantee that Australian uranium will not end up in nuclear weapons.
Indeed the only guarantee we can have is that this mine and it's products will generate intractable, dangerous radioactive waste which there is no safe method of storage.
The small profit to be made by a private corporation by mining this uranium does not outweigh the risk to the public good.
Sincerely,

"...To subsidise coal is to subsidise
climate change.
Coal is the most carbon intensive
of fossil fuels and its use is a
major contributor to greenhouse
gas emissions both in Australia
and overseas.
Yet the coal industry was given a total
of $308 million in rebates for fuel excise in
2005/6,4 an amount greater than
all federal funding for renewables.
Over the life of the Coalition
Government, these grants
contributed $1.9 billion to the coal
industry(5) at a time when their
profits grew hugely; rising from a
$5 billion pre-tax profit in 2004/5
to $10 billion in 2005/06.6
The coal industry can afford to
have this subsidy removed; the
climate cannot afford to have it
continue...."

Dear friends :-)
... back in Bundy, safe and sound.
Considering we left on a wing and a prayer (with NO funds), we feel a great sense of accomplishment.
My kids (Scott 13, and Natalie, 18) had a wonderful time.
As did our dogs - Lady (a highly active and skittish female six month old rottie/border collie cross) and Chief (a 2 year old blue/border collie cross).
It was very "comfy" in Natalie's little 20 year old toyota hatchback.
It is not often that I promote donation requests, however, this request is unique.
When funding is needed to accomplish the right to fair and honest justice by our legal system, I am sure there are many who will feel as I do, and will give all they can spare. Time is well past allowing genocide to continue at the hands of our "protectors".

Please forward throughout your networks, anyone passing through tomorrow...
say hi :-)

It is a sad thing that Rudd has continued down the nuclear trail, sad for the people he is supposed to represent, sad for the planet and very sad for humanity.
while ever nuclear power is pulled from the ground there is waste to clean up ... and no one wants it...
where do they think they can put it... why not stick it in Buckingham Palace beside the royal jewels? That's gotta pull in the tourists!
why not stick it in Canberra under the new parliament house?
why not stick it on the Harbour Bridge of Sydney.
How is NSW "Nuclear Free"????
