Intervention -180 NT Aboriginal women speak out

Motion from a meeting of 180 NT Aboriginal women from bush areas, town camps and combined organizations.

Meeting held at Tangentyera, in Alice Springs on 18 October 2007.

MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY:

Aboriginal women today are saying that the Commonwealth NT National Emergency Intervention legislation must be abolished.

STATEMENT:

This women's group strongly supports the demand for safety of Aboriginal children. We will continuously oppose the NT Intervention and the way that it has been implemented into prescribed Aboriginal areas.

We will continue to fight this discriminatory legislation on a local, regional, national and international level as it is racist, unjust and against human rights.

We call upon the National Aboriginal Alliance in advocating for Aboriginal people to take up our fight to the Federal Government.
