Short summary & pictures uploaded
Listening to Bob Brown was a wonderful experience. His passion and enthusiasm for a peaceful and sustainable future is simply inspirational.
One of the things he talked about which really struck me as something that needs more attention was the fact that if logging of our native forests in Tasmania was stopped, Australia's carbon footprint would be instantly reduced by 20%.
I collected a few names on the QCU/ETU/RTBU Petition http://www.etu.org.au/files/1TXM4U8QY1/Workplace_Petition.pdf over the weekend (including Bob Brown's & Jenny Stirling's) and handed out most of the bumper stickers ("See Qld First, Before Bligh Sells It"), i am happy in the knowledge that lots more cars will proudly carry them around Townsville & Magnetic Island.
Bob Brown also mentioned the steady stream of corporate donations into the parties of our elected representatives. It seems that there is an open door to corporate reps all day every day to ministers offices @ Parliament House...
Yet us voters, when do we get a chance to "chin wag" with them? How does an open door to despoilers represent the best interests of the people that our honourable members are supposed to represent? This needs to CHANGE!
As such, I will be attending Bundaberg's ALP Community Cabinet next Sunday and will be presenting my views on the following five issues:
1. The proposed privatisation of our public assets and how my community is in strong opposition & presenting QCU signed petitions.
2. The need for the establishment of a safe, clean-energy self-sufficient disaster evacuation building - employing local labour for the construction.
3. The formation of a Qld State Bank.
4. Increased public transport services to rural areas (i have spoken to our local bus company director and he is ready, willing and able to assist).
5. A smooth transition into clean, sustainable energy supplies for both existing housing and businesses, and all future construction.
After the Lectures with Bob i had a few moments with him and asked him what he thought about the idea of the formation of a State Bank and he thinks the idea has a lot of merit.
All in all, a very productive weekend filled with wonderful memories that i will treasure all for the rest of my days.

put 20% on the table NOW!
the local people are not happy about the pulp mill, the environment will not be happy about the pulp mill, the native animals that live in the logged areas will not be happy about the pulp mill... and we NEED our grandmother forests to help (the only) home for us all to cope with our emissions.
please... end logging of our native forests...
leave them in peace now...
give our home 20% reductions instantly!
